The first edition of the Beninese Pediatric Orthopedic Days was held in April 2025, marking a major milestone in the management of pediatric orthopedic conditions in Benin. Held from April 16 to 18, 2025, at the Department of Training and Health Research (DFRS), this event brought together national and international specialists, institutional partners, and civil society stakeholders committed to child health including PPM Laboratories.
The main objective was to promote the sharing of experiences, continuing education, and networking among healthcare professionals involved in the management of pediatric orthopedic conditions. The program included lectures, practical workshops, roundtable discussions, and clinical case presentations, addressing a variety of topics such as congenital malformations, trauma, surgical innovations, and functional rehabilitation.
The success of this first edition was due to the commitment of several major partners:
The Beninese Society of Pediatric Surgery and the Beninese Society of Pediatrics, the main organizers; European medical teams, notably from the CEA Foundation and Chaîne de l'Espoir Belgium, who contributed their expertise during previous surgical missions and contributed to the training of local teams; the Zou Departmental Hospital Center (CHDZ), a host organization for numerous missions and a key player in the practical training of Beninese professionals; and partner NGOs and associations, which support the development of specialized care and access to orthopedic surgery for vulnerable children. Beyond the scientific exchanges, these days helped strengthen collaboration between Beninese specialists and their international counterparts, while raising awareness among health authorities of the importance of investing in pediatric orthopedics. The practical workshops fostered skills transfer, and several Beninese children were able to benefit from an assessment or specialized care during this event.
The organizers expressed their commitment to maintaining this event, with the ambition of making the Beninese Pediatric Orthopedics Days a key annual event for promoting child health in Benin and the surrounding region.
